Review

This review applies to version 7.2 The latest version of this software will soon be reviewed by our informers.

For those that don’t know the first word about computers and software we are going to make an introduction to this review. There different standards regarding computer systems and, for each standard, there are several developers and manufacturers. Maybe the most commonly used standard is the PC, computers that may run under Windows operating systems and Linux and its variations (among others less known). On the other hand, there’s an American manufacturer, Apple, which produces its own computers and operating system named Macintosh. That’s why you may usually hear that some software is available for Windows and Mac, referring that it will work either in a Windows based computer (PC) and in a Macintosh based computer (Apple). Ok, what happen for those who need share information and files between these two standards? Well, things have been improving for a while now but this could be a nightmare for this kind of users, let’s say four or five years ago.
There are some software developers creating pieces of software for both, Windows and Mac. Even when they are not the same version, the work just the same and the files produced by one version are totally readable and modifiable by the other. One good example of this is Microsoft and its famous suite Office. This way, if you use a Microsoft Excel for Mac still will be able to open and share your own files on a Windows-based Excel user. This was a big step in terms of compatibility but there was a long path to walk left. What happen with hard disks and drives? What if you want to connect or view a Mac hard drive on a PC? There’s where MacDrive comes in.
MacDrive can help you solve this problem ins very straightforward way: it gives the Windows desktop, Explorer and any software running under Windows the ability to freely open and save files on Macintosh disks. That is to say, you won’t need to run special software tools or anything like that in order to be able to open or save files on a Mac-formatted disk. You will just do things as you were using a Windows-format disk. It’s as easy as that.
MacDrive can share all types of files between Macintosh and Windows, but it does not interpret or modify files. This means that you can share all types of files on Mac disks, but you need to have both Windows and Mac OS software that can understand the files you intend to share.
Advantages
  • It allows to share Mac / Windows files.
  • It can create Mac disks from Windows.
  • It's available for an affordable price.
Disadvantages
  • It's available in English only.
  • It does not interpret or modify files
